Drought Conditions Worsen in Region

Despite some much needed rainfall moving through the region, drought conditions continue to worsen in the area.

According to the latest data released from the U.S. Drought Monitor, both the Arkansas and Missouri Lakes Region is in a Severe Drought Category, This category indicates the potential for major crop loses and water shortages plus low levels in area waterways.

Due to the heavy rainfall earlier in the year, many of the area lakes are still close to normal pool while Bull Shoals Lake remains high due to water storage of the spring rains. However many area streams are down and levels at the Buffalo National River have been low for several weeks.

Even with the forecast for rain over the next few days, forecasters from the National Weather Service say that drought conditions are expected to remain high in the region for most of the month of August.
