More Information Released on Jasper Shooting, Arrest

The Arkansas State Police has now released information on the shooting incident that occurred in Jasper last weekend.

The release, along with information previously released by the Newton County Sheriff's Office, says that 39-year-old Kurt William Gronwaldt of Jasper was arrested by ASP Criminal Investigation Division Special Agents, along with Sheriff’s Officers from the incident that took place on January 11 on East Court Street in Jasper. 

According to the release, witnesses say that Gronwaldt fired a shot at the residence and was behaving erratically toward the people in the house, Gronwaldt was shot in the hand by one of the individuals in the house. That shooting was ruled as self-defense in the Newton County Sheriff's release. 

After being shot according to the ASP Release, Gronwaldt fled the scene but was later located when the vehicle he was driving was involved in a traffic crash on Highway 7. Gronwaldt was airlifted to Cox South Hospital in Springfield for treatment and was released. . 

Gronwaldtt turn himself in to Newton County Authorities on January 15 and is facing felony charges of Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons and Terroristic Threatening.

Gronwaldt remains in the Newton County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
